Job Summary
As a WIC Program Coordinator, you will lead the WIC program in San Diego County, California. The WIC program helps families with young children get healthy food, nutrition education, and breastfeeding support. Your job will be to make sure the program runs smoothly, help families understand how to join, and manage the team that helps run the program.
You’ll play a very important role in making sure that families in San Diego have what they need to live healthier and happier lives.
Responsibilities
Here’s what you’ll do in this job:
- Oversee the WIC Program: You will make sure the WIC program is working well every day. This means following the rules and making sure everything is organized and running smoothly.
- Lead a Team: You will be in charge of a team of WIC staff. You will guide and support them, so they can help families in the best way possible.
- Help Families: You’ll talk to families, explain how the WIC program works, and help them get the food and services they need.
- Plan and Organize Programs: You will help plan nutrition education classes and breastfeeding support programs for families.
- Track Progress: You will keep track of how well the program is doing. This means checking numbers and writing reports to make sure the program is reaching its goals.
- Work with Other Groups: You will work with other health organizations and community groups to make the WIC program even better.
- Solve Problems: Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. You’ll need to find ways to solve problems and make sure families always get the help they need.
- Make Sure Resources Are Available: You will make sure the WIC program has enough food and materials for families, and that everything is organized.
Qualifications
We want someone who is passionate about helping families and has the skills to do the job well. Here’s what you need:
Required Skills:
- Good Communication: You need to talk clearly so everyone understands you. You should be able to listen to people’s needs and explain things in a simple way.
- Leadership Skills: You will be in charge of a team, so you should be able to lead and support others. You’ll guide your team to do their best work.
- Organized: You’ll have many tasks to manage. You need to be good at keeping track of everything and making sure things get done on time.
- Problem-Solving: Things might not always go as planned. You need to be able to think of ways to fix problems when they come up.
- Understanding of Health Programs: It helps if you know about health programs like WIC that help families. But if not, we can train you!
- Respect for Different Cultures: You’ll work with families from many different backgrounds. It’s important to be kind and respectful to everyone.
Preferred Skills:
- Bilingual (Spanish): If you speak Spanish or another language, it would help you connect with more families.
- Experience with WIC: If you’ve worked in a similar program before, it will be easier for you to do the job.
- Health or Nutrition Knowledge: If you know a lot about nutrition or health, it will help you do your job better.
- Good with Computers: You’ll use computers to track information. If you know how to use basic computer programs, that’s great!
Education and Experience
- Education: You need to have at least a high school diploma or GED. But if you have a college degree in a field like health, nutrition, or social work, that’s even better!
- Experience: You should have at least 2 years of experience in a job where you worked with a team, helped people, or managed programs. Experience with programs like WIC is a plus.

This job is based in San Diego County, California. San Diego is a wonderful place with beautiful beaches, warm weather, and a lot of diverse people. You’ll be working in a place where you can really help make a difference in the community.
Salary and Benefits
We offer a competitive salary for this position. You can expect to earn between $50,000 and $70,000 per year, depending on your experience and qualifications.
