Job Summary
As a Trainer Nutrition Education Specialist, you will teach families about nutrition. Your job is to help parents and children make good food choices. You’ll hold classes to show families how eating healthy helps them feel their best. You’ll also answer questions and guide them on what foods are healthy. This role is great for someone who likes working with people and wants to share the importance of good nutrition.
Key Responsibilities
As a Trainer Nutrition Education Specialist, you will have these important tasks:
Teaching and Guiding
- Teach Nutrition: Show families why healthy eating is important and explain basic nutrition in simple ways.
- Hold Classes: Lead fun and easy-to-understand classes about healthy foods, food safety, and balanced meals.
- Answer Questions: Help families understand any nutrition-related questions they have.
Support Families
- Offer One-on-One Support: Meet with WIC participants to help with their personal nutrition needs.
- Set Goals: Help families set easy goals for a healthier diet.
- Encourage and Motivate: Give support to make families feel good about making healthier choices.
Make Programs Better
- Create Materials: Work with others to make easy-to-read guides, flyers, and posters about healthy eating.
- Collect Feedback: Listen to families’ thoughts to keep improving our programs and materials.
- Plan Activities: Think of new ways to make learning about nutrition fun and interesting.
Work with the Community
- Join Events: Represent WIC at community events, health fairs, and other places where families can learn about healthy eating.
- Build Connections: Work with local groups to help spread the word about the WIC program and nutrition.
- Team Collaboration: Work with dietitians and other health experts to support each family.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics, or something similar.
- Experience: At least one year of work in nutrition, public health, or community outreach.
Skills Needed
- Communication Skills: You should be able to explain things clearly so that everyone can understand.
- Teaching Skills: Be comfortable speaking in front of groups and teaching in a friendly way.
- Empathy and Patience: It’s important to listen to families and make them feel supported.
- Organized: Able to keep track of materials and make sure everything is in order.
Preferred Skills
- Bilingual: Being able to speak English and Spanish is helpful for this job.
- Problem-Solving: Be able to think of new ways to help families with unique needs.
- Computer Skills: Know how to use basic computer programs like Microsoft Word.

Location
This job is based in Harris County, Houston, Texas. You’ll mainly work from the WIC office on Antoine Street, and sometimes at community events around the area.
