Job Summary

As a Health Communication Specialist, you will help spread health information to people in Harris County. Your job will be to write, speak, and share health messages that everyone can understand. You’ll create content like articles, social media posts, flyers, and more to teach people about health. You’ll also help organize campaigns to raise awareness about important health topics.

Your work will make sure people get the information they need to stay healthy and safe. You’ll help us keep the community informed and healthy by making sure our messages are clear and easy for everyone to understand.

Responsibilities

Here’s what you will be doing every day as a Health Communication Specialist:

1. Write Health Content: You will write easy-to-read articles, social media posts, and other materials to share important health messages with the community.
2. Create Health Campaigns: You will help plan and run health campaigns to teach people about important health topics. This could be anything from teaching people how to stay active to raising awareness about preventing diseases.
3. Manage Social Media: You will use social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to share health messages. You will help answer questions and keep people engaged with our posts.
4. Community Outreach: You will work with schools, local groups, and health organizations to make sure people are getting the information they need. You might attend events, give presentations, or help set up health booths at community gatherings.
5. Measure Success: You will track how well our health messages are working. If something isn’t getting the right response, you’ll help make changes to improve our communication.
6. Support Health Professionals: You will work closely with doctors, nurses, and other health professionals to help them share their knowledge with the public. You might help them create presentations or other materials.
7. Crisis Communication: If there’s an emergency or a health problem, you will help share accurate and quick information to make sure people know what to do. You’ll help prevent confusion or fear by providing clear and reliable facts.

Required Skills

To do this job well, you should have the following skills:

1. Good Writing and Speaking Skills: You need to write clearly and speak well to explain health topics in simple words. You should feel comfortable talking to people in groups or one-on-one.
2. Creativity: You should be able to come up with new and interesting ways to share health information. This could mean writing fun posts or creating videos or flyers.
3. Social Media Knowledge: You should know how to use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. You will use these tools to share health messages with many people.
4. Public Speaking: Sometimes, you’ll need to speak in front of people at meetings or events. You should be confident speaking in public and be able to explain health topics clearly.
5. Attention to Detail: It’s important to make sure all your messages are correct. You should check your work for mistakes and make sure everything you write is easy to understand.
6. Organizational Skills: You’ll need to keep track of different tasks and deadlines. Being organized will help you stay on top of everything you need to do.

Preferred Skills

1. Experience in Health Communication: If you’ve worked in health or communications before, that’s a plus! It will help you better understand the types of health topics you’ll be writing about.

Education and Experience

• Education: You should have a high school diploma. It’s also good if you have taken some college courses in communications, health, or a similar field.
• Experience: If you have 1-2 years of experience working in communication or public health, that’s helpful but not required. We are willing to train the right person!

Location

This job is based in Harris County, Houston, Texas. You will mostly work in the office, but some tasks may be done remotely from home. The office is located in the heart of Houston, making it easy to reach and close to many community events.
