Our goal is to help prevent diseases and make life better for everyone in our area. We need a Public Health Laboratory Technician to help us test samples and find out what could be making people sick.
Job Summary
As a Public Health Laboratory Technician, you will work in a lab, testing and checking samples to find out if there are diseases or germs in them. Your work will help doctors and other health workers understand what is happening in our community so they can take action to keep everyone safe.
You will also help keep the lab clean and make sure the equipment is working properly. Your tests and results will be important for making decisions that affect the health of many people.
Responsibilities
As a Public Health Laboratory Technician, you will do many important tasks, such as:
- Collecting and preparing samples: You will take samples like blood, saliva, or other materials from people and get them ready for testing.
- Testing samples: You will test these samples to find out if there are germs or diseases in them, like bacteria or viruses.
- Checking test results: After testing, you will look at the results to make sure they are correct. You will report what you find to other health workers.
- Keeping the lab safe and clean: It is very important to make sure the lab is safe and that everything is clean. You will clean the equipment and make sure everything works properly.
- Working with others: You will work with other people in the lab, like other technicians or scientists, to make sure everything runs smoothly.
- Learning new things: You will keep learning about new science and health information to help do your job better.
Your work will be very important for making sure that people in your community stay healthy.
Qualifications
Required Skills
To do this job, you should have these skills:
- Attention to detail: You need to be careful and pay attention to small details. Testing is very important, so everything has to be done correctly.
- Good communication: You need to be able to explain your results clearly to other people.
- Problem-solving: Sometimes you will need to solve problems if things don’t go as planned, like if the equipment isn’t working.
- Time management: You will need to handle many tasks at once and make sure you finish them on time.
- Technology skills: You will need to use computers and lab equipment to help test and track samples.
Preferred Skills
While not required, it will help if you also have:
- Experience working in a lab: If you have ever worked in a lab before or know how labs work, that’s great!
- Understanding science: If you know about germs, bacteria, or diseases, it will help you understand your work better.
- Using lab tools and computers: If you already know how to use lab tools and technology, that will be helpful.
Education and Experience
Education
You need at least a high school diploma. However, if you have finished a course in lab work or science, that is a big plus.
Experience
It’s okay if you don’t have a lot of experience. If you have worked in a lab before, it will help. But if not, we will train you to learn everything you need to know. We just want someone who is ready to learn and help!
Location
This job is located in Harris County, Houston, Texas. Houston is a big city with many opportunities, and there are lots of fun things to do in the area. You will be helping people in your own community stay safe and healthy, which is very rewarding.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this job is between $35,000 and $45,000 per year. The exact amount depends on your skills and experience. We also offer great benefits, such as:
